We're excited to be bringing NYMPHO resident ATARANGI back from Naarm/Melbourne, Australia for a six-hour long marathon set in Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland.
Birthed through the ever-changing ecosystem of ballroom, Naarm based DJ and Producer ATARANGI joins a legion of DJs pushing the underground to the forefront of mainstream consciousness. They draw heavy influence from the queer underground scene from across the Pacific by way of New York City to inform a sound touched by many, perfected by few. By bending the fabric from which sonic connection is formed, they weave together sonic threads from techno, to baile funk; creating a complex, one-of-a-kind kind tapestry of sound. Hailed as a master of emergence, their high-energy, reactive, never-the-same sets have made them nothing short of a mainstay in the club circuit across the Pacific.
As well as being a staple in the ballroom at home and abroad, they also help facilitate Tāmaki Makaurau-based queer club night and record label NYMPHO - dedicating their collective practice to sexual liberation and gender euphoria on and off the dance floor.
As well as having shared stages with the likes of LSDXOXO, Overmono, Nia Archives, Skin on Skin, Tim Reaper, HorsegiirL, and TAAHLIAH, they’ve made unforgettable appearances on the shores of Aotearoa at 121 and Beacon Festival, and overseas, notably LE FAG and UMAMI in Naarm/Melbourne, and VIVID Festival at the Sydney Opera House for House of Mince. Mix releases on Rinse FM through Bristol-based label EC2A, Triple J, and Aotearoa’s coveted Friendly Potential Radio have propelled ATARANGI into a lane of their own.
Many things can be true, but one thing is for certain: ATARANGI’s infectious, uninhibited sound will soundtrack dancefloors for years to come
NYMPHO is a dance-focused queer club night with visual and performance art styles woven into high energy DJ sets. We strive to create a safe, inclusive and transcendent club experience which celebrates gender euphoria, body positivity and sexual liberation. Our kaupapa of lifting up marginalised communities extends from our audience and lineups to our musical philosophies - with genre-diverse sets centred around QBIPOC rooted genres such as techno, house and emergent queer sounds. As well as spotlighting the best of Aotearoa’s diverse queer talent, NYMPHO has brought international icons to our long white cloud, including Jasmine Infiniti, horsegiirL, TAAHLIAH and DJ G2G.
